Frequently Asked Questions

How much does does solar cost for my home?

1.

Each home has a different electrical usage and gets a different amount of sunlight, because of this their solar system value varies and there isn't a set cost for a solar system. One house might only need 15 panels while other homeowners find that 32 panels and a battery is the better fit. Because of this we create a custom design and quote for each home. We look at how much sunlight your roof gets and how much roof space your home has, most of all we base the system size on your electrical needs. A good way to estimate your solar payment would be to look at your average electric bill. Your solar payment will be slightly less year one. Even better, with solar your payment is locked in. To top it off local tax credits and rebates can save you even more!

How do the Federal and State Income Tax Credits work?

2.

The Federal and State* Income Tax Credits are incentives provided by the federal and state governments to help homeowners and businesses owner their own solar power energy systems. For Example, if you have $9,500 available in federal tax credits and you typically have $11,000 withheld from your paycheck in federal taxes then you would receive the full tax credit** . How can you estimate your tax credit? Simply multiply the total solar value by the current percentage, which is currently 26%. If your system value is $30,000 your federal income tax credit would be $7,800.

*In South Carolina homeowners get an additional 25% state tax credit. $3,500 or half of the homeowners tax liability will be applied each tax year up to 10 years until the full credit is used.

**Consult with your personal Tax Accountant to check how the Federal and State Income Tax Credits will affect your personal taxes.

Will going solar help me go "off the grid"?

3.

We have many options and solar plus battery packages available that make it possible to go "off the grid", still our standard solar system is a "grid tied" setup. Many utilities allow you to use their grid as a 'battery' with their net metering programs. They record the extra energy you send them as energy credits that offset your electric bill in the form of credits.

What if I move?

4.

When a homeowner moves with solar they have a couple options available to them!

First they can have the fixed solar financing and warranties transferred to the new homeowner.

OR

Second they often will wrap the payoff amount for solar into their home value when selling. This is the most common way people sell their house with solar. For example let's say the home value is $300,000 before solar. If you still owed $11,000 on your system but the system value is $25,000. You can then sell your home for $325,000. This means that if you went with Ascendant Solar and paid $0 down then you can pocket the extra $14,000!
